Spoiler free Toy Story 4 review
I was dead set against another Toy Story film. And when it was announced many moons ago that this new chapter was going to be about Woody and Bo Peep’s love story – I rolled my eyes hard. And for the record – Forky is a spork. Y’all, I went in with feelings. I admit it. So, did it win me over?
Is Toy Story 4 kid-friendly?
Let’s get this one out of the way real quick. I attended with three kids 8-11, and they LOVED it! All three had full on belly laughs many times throughout the film.
Toy Story 4 is rated “G” and it was honestly the most wholesome family film I’ve seen in quite a while. And it was short! The runtime is just over 90 minutes. But with that said, we had a family behind us with young kids, I’d say between 3-6, and the movie didn’t hold there attention one bit. They were loudly talking, singing the ABCs and making a huge ruckus the whole movie. So, if you plan on taking little ones, please respect the other movies goers and take them out if they won’t settle down.
Are there Scary parts in Toy Story 4?
There are some creepy parts, ahem, Gabby Gabby and her goons, but none of the kids around me seemed to be scared… The parents – well that’s another story. I may have I hid my head at one part. Something about talking dolls and creepy dummies is scary. Thanks Chucky.
And there is a few scenes where Gabby Gabby wants something from Woody that is a huge part of him. While I don’t think many of the younger kids will understand too much of it, it can be disturbing to watch.
My husband did point out that our new furry friends, Duck and Bunny do have a “Five Nights at Freddy’s” feel about them. Some might find their humor dark at times, but they had the audience rolling with laughter with their antics.

Is there bad language in Toy Story 4?
Nope! The film is clean of swear words and any bad language. Which honestly, is a huge relief. I would have had to give Disney/Pixar a piece of my mind if they tried to make a Toy Story movie more adult.
Will you need tissues?
Pack the tissues. You won’t need as many as you did for Toy Story 3, but there are some parts that pull at the heart strings. No tears were spilled on my part, but I was close a few times.
Was it a good movie?
Toy Story 4 was funny, entertaining and overall a great film. In the midst of some not so great summer films, Toy Story 4 is a lifesaver. It’s perfect for all ages and a great way to get the kids out of the house for a little bit.
I adored most of the new characters that we meet in this movie. Duck and Bunny are hysterical and will have everyone laughing. And Forky won me over in the end. He has a wonderful role in Bonnie’s life.
Entertain the kids this summer and make Toy Story Slime!
But did we need another Toy Story?
Let’s get this straight Toy Story 4 is Woody’s story. Not about his past, but about his present and future. Toy Story was never just about Woody in my eyes, so I don’t feel like I needed this movie. And while all our favorites make appearances in the movie, I missed them.
I didn’t love it as the ending to the Toy Story franchise. While there are bits from past movies, I just can’t get past the fact that Toy Story 3 was a great ending to the “Andy era”.
I’d count this as an awesome stand-alone film. I really enjoyed the movie, but my life would have been fine without it.
