My son has been playing video games since he was just a toddler. Now at 12, he considers himself quite the video game connoisseur and is all about trying new games.
As a huge fan of Ice Age, he was super stoked to be able to try out ICE AGE: Scrat’s Nutty Adventure. And I was happy he was taking a much-needed break from Fortnite and Overwatch.
Make sure to enter the giveaway at the end of the post for your chance to win a Nintendo Switch download code for ICE AGE: Scrat’s Nutty Adventure.
What is ICE AGE: Scrat’s Nutty Adventure about?
A mysterious mechanism in an ancient Scratazon Temple has locked away Scrat’s prized possession and the only way to get it back is an epic quest to find four legendary Crystal Nuts, scattered across the land.
Is the game easy to play?
As I said above, my son is an avid gamer, so the game was pretty simple for him. But for younger kids, it is a great introduction to video games. Jumping, throwing – they will quickly learn to master which buttons need to be pushed to accomplish the task. And those fine motor skills will be tested and mastered!
There were a few glitches (slow loading, screen drops) that made the gameplay more difficult than it needed to be.
Does the game have any violence?
There isn’t any blood and guts or headshots in Scrat’s Nutty Adventure, which in my book is a win! Scrat does throw nuts and to defeat the bad guys including some big bosses, but that is nothing in comparison to most games today.
How did my son like ICE AGE: Scrat’s Nutty Adventure?
Overall, my son enjoyed the game. He said it reminded him of old school, Super Mario Bros and similar games. The story was fun and Scrat was just as hilarious as he was in all of the Ice Age films.
But he beat it in a day and since there wasn’t any extra stuff, he moved on quickly to something else.
What I liked about the game
I loved that the wasn’t any violence. And that it took me back to when I first started playing video games on the original Nintendo. Plus, as a single-player game, I didn’t have to listen to him yelling at his friends. It gave me some quiet time.
The graphics were also fun. Bright and bold colors, perfect to pull kids into the game.
What ages would I recommend ICE AGE: Scrat’s Nutty Adventure for?
ICE AGE: Scrat’s Nutty Adventure is rated E for everyone and I agree, but I think it’s really for the young or beginning gamers. It’s a great game for young readers to practice and for those just learning the controls on a controller or gamepad.
For tweens, teens and adults, I feel the gameplay is too simple and won’t hold their attention for long. Or like my son, they will quickly beat it.
ICE AGE: Scrat’s Nutty Adventure is available NOW for Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Playstation 4.
