I am a self-proclaimed Christmas freak. I start the holiday countdown as soon as we go to bed on Christmas day. And our season starts as soon as we hit the first “BER” month – Yep, y’all that means September!
So, I obviously know where to find all the best holiday movies and I’ll admit in the past my first stop was the Hallmark channel… But Netflix has put on their jingle bells and got their snowballs ready to fight for those holiday viewers!
I love all Christmas movies. From the predictable small-town romance to animated elf films. And Netflix has something that fits all my holiday moods! So, here are my top 15 holiday movies on Netflix!
Holidate
Start your holiday season “early” (Oct. 28, 2020) with a holiday date pact with lasting potential.
So, obviously my halls are already decked with seasonal cheer but this cute rom-com will be the first Netflix holiday film I watch this season!
Synopsis: Sloane (Emma Roberts) and Jackson (Luke Bracey) hate the holidays. They constantly find themselves single, sitting at the kids table, or stuck with awkward dates. But when these two strangers meet one particularly bad Christmas, they make a pact to be each other’s “holidate” for every festive occasion throughout the next year. With a mutual disdain for the holidays, and assuring themselves that they have no romantic interest in the other, they make the perfect team. However, as a year of absurd celebrations come to an end, Sloane and Jackson find that sharing everything they hate may just prove to be something they unexpectedly love.
Operation Christmas Drop
Escape to the beaches of Guam in the fun romantic comedy Operation Christmas Drop on November 5, 2020.
I can not wait for this movie. It already holds a special place in my heart as a former military wife. Operation Christmas Drop is a true humanitarian mission that has been happening since 1952.
Air crews are linked to the village via ham radio as they fly overhead and drop supplies. The event provides readiness training to participating aircrew, allowing them to gain experience in conducting airdrops while providing critical supplies to 56 Micronesian islands impacting about 20,000 people; ultimately it’s a profound win for everyone involved.
Andersen AFB website
Synopsis: A congressional aide and the Air Force tour guide she clashes with when she arrives to find reasons to defund his facility. Once there she discovers the base has been hiding a sweet, seasonal secret.
Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey
We may not have a trailer for Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey but we’ve got pictures. And they speak a 1000 words. Striking. Awe-inspiring. Breathtaking. I could go on and on about how stunning the images are. Add in the star-studded, award-winning cast and a host of original songs, Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey is a holiday tradition in the making.

Synopsis: A musical adventure and a visual spectacle for the ages, Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey is a wholly fresh and spirited family holiday event. Set in the gloriously vibrant town of Cobbleton, the film follows legendary toymaker Jeronicus Jangle (Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker) whose fanciful inventions burst with whimsy and wonder. But when his trusted apprentice (Emmy winner Keegan-Michael Key) steals his most prized creation, it’s up to his equally bright and inventive granddaughter (newcomer Madalen Mills) — and a long-forgotten invention — to heal old wounds and reawaken the magic within.
Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey will be available to stream on November 13, 2020!
The Princess Switch
Starring everyone’s favorite high school vocalist, Vanessa Hudgens, The Princess Switch, is a light-hearted albeit predictable rom-com Christmas escape. And honestly, that is exactly what I’m looking for when scrolling through holiday favorites!
Synopsis: One week before Christmas, Margaret, the gorgeous Duchess of Montenaro, switches places with Stacy, a “commoner” from Chicago, who looks exactly like her. With the assistance of a magical Santa’s helper, Margaret falls in love with Stacy’s handsome co-worker, while Stacy falls in love with Margaret’s fiance, the dashing Prince.

The Princess Switch: Switched Again.
It’s time to catch up with our favorite princesses! Ok, they may not be a real princess (yet?) but who cares, Vanessa can wear the crown any day in my opinion. And it appears as we’ll be introduced to a third lookalike, Margaret’s cousin, Fiona!
I have no doubt The Princess Switch: Switched Again will be just as enchanting as the first. But I’m more excited to watch Hudgens embrace all three personalities – Duchess Margaret, Stacy and party girl, Fiona.
The Princess Switch: Switched Again will be coming to televisions (with Netflix subscriptions) everywhere on November 19, 2020.
Synopsis: When Duchess Margaret unexpectedly inherits the throne to Montenaro and hits a rough patch with Kevin, it’s up to her double Stacy to save the day before a new lookalike, party girl Fiona foils their plans.
Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square
Delighted. That is how the announcement that a new Dolly Parton Christmas musical was going to be on Netflix this year. Dolly has been my holiday icon since I was a small child watching Kenny & Dolly: A Christmas to Remember.
Not only is Parton starring in Christmas on the Square but viewers will be treated to 14 original songs with music and lyrics by the country star.
Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square will be on Netflix November 22, 2020. Just in time to officially kick off the season.
Synopsis: A rich and nasty woman, Regina Fuller, returns to her small hometown after her father’s death to evict everyone and sell the land to a mall developer – right before Christmas. However, after listening to stories of the local townsfolk, reconnecting with an old love, and accepting the guidance of an actual angel, Regina starts to have a change of heart. This is the story about family, love, and how a small town’s Christmas spirit can warm even the coldest of hearts. Starring Dolly Parton, Christine Baranski, Jenifer Lewis, Treat Williams, and directed and choreographed by three-time Emmy and Golden Globe winner Debbie Allen.
The Christmas Chronicles
Kurt Russell plays Santa Claus.
Do I need to say more? Because I don’t think I do. That one sentence tells you The Christmas Chronicles is an epic holiday film.
Synopsis: Siblings Kate and Teddy Pierce hatch a scheme to capture Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. When the plan goes awry, the kids join forces with a somewhat jolly Saint Nick and his loyal elves to save the holiday before it’s too late.
The Christmas Chronicles Part 2
I can’t believe it’s been two years since the first Christmas Chronicles. Finally, on November 25, 2020, Santa is back! And he’s bringing Mrs. Claus.
Synopsis: It’s been two years since siblings Kate (Darby Camp) and Teddy Pierce (Judah Lewis) saved Christmas, and a lot has changed. Kate, now a cynical teenager, is reluctantly spending Christmas in Cancun with her mom’s new boyfriend and his son Jack (Jahzir Bruno). Unwilling to accept this new version of her family, Kate decides to run away. But when a mysterious, magical troublemaker named Belsnickel threatens to destroy the North Pole and end Christmas for good, Kate and Jack are unexpectedly pulled into a new adventure with Santa Claus (Kurt Russell)
Holiday Rush
One of last year’s hits, Holiday Rush is a poignant film for many this coming holiday season. 2020 has been a tough year and many find themselves unemployed and struggling to provide for their families just like Rush Williams (Romany Malco).
The family’s ups and downs are relatable and the typical holiday happy-ending gives you those warm and fuzzy feelings of hope.
Synopsis: After his sudden firing, a popular widowed radio DJ moves in with his aunt, bringing along his four spoiled children, and a plan to return to the airwaves.
A Christmas Prince Trilogy
Since 2017, Netflix has gifted us with a new royal film to unwrap. And while we don’t have a new Christmas Prince under the tree this year we can still stream all three (A Christmas Prince, A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding and A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby) every day of the season.
Synopsis: A Christmas Prince (2017): Christmas comes early for an aspiring young journalist when she’s sent abroad to get the scoop on a dashing prince who’s poised to be king.
The Royal Wedding (2018): A year after Amber helped Richard secure the crown, the two are set to tie the knot in a royal Christmas wedding – but their plans are jeopardized when Amber finds herself second-guessing whether or not she’s cut out to be queen.
The Royal Baby (2019): Amber and Richard host royals from a faraway kingdom to renew a sacred truce, but when the priceless treaty disappears, peace is put in jeopardy and an ancient curse threatens their family.
Klaus
The only animated film to make the list, Klaus, proved to be a charming new take on the story of Santa Claus.
My family fell in love with Klaus and the kids excitedly added it to our must watch every year holiday movies. I have no doubt it’ll become a family tradition for you too!
Synopsis: After proving himself to be the worst postman at the academy, a postman is posted to a frozen town in the North where he discovers Santa Claus is hiding out.
Holiday in the Wild

Girl marries, gets divorced, goes on a wild adventure to find herself and find love in an unlikely place. Cliche? Maybe but it’s a glorious journey to watch with a cup of cocoa (with a little peppermint schnapps)!
And yes, there is a little absence of snow and it’s not your quintessential small town but it is filled with Christmas cheer. And that is why it makes my list of holiday movies to watch on Netflix.
Synopsis: After her husband ends their marriage, Kate (Kristin Davis) embarks on a solo second honeymoon in Africa. There, she and Derek (Rob Lowe), a pilot, rescue a baby elephant. While nursing the elephant back to health, Kate discovers how much she loves her new surroundings.
The Knight Before Christmas
I’m a sucker for a knight in shiny armor, even if it’s 2020. Released last year, The Knight Before Christmas is the perfect mix of predictability and heartfelt sweetness.
Synopsis: A medieval English knight is magically transported to the present day where he falls for a high school science teacher who is disillusioned by love.
There ya have it – My must-watch holiday movies on Netflix for 2020!
