We met Anna, Elsa and the gang in Frozen which came out in 2013. Immediately it became a hit with fans of all ages and even now, 6 years later, it is still incredibly popular.
With just about every kid you meet loving the first film you’d think “of course Frozen 2 is kid-friendly”. Well, did you know it’s rated PG? Yep, parental guidance is suggested which means there could be a few parts that may not be considered family-friendly by some.
What is Frozen 2 rated?
Just like the original, Frozen 2 is rated PG, which seems to be Disney’s new favorite. It is safe and puts the responsibility on the parents to decide if Frozen 2 is kid-friendly.
Is there swearing in Frozen 2?
None that I caught. And I wouldn’t expect anything else. There isn’t any need to put cursies in an animated film geared towards children.

Does the movie have violence?
Some mild violence is seen throughout the film as the past is explored.
There are a few battle scenes in this movie. Nothing bloody, but there is a scene that shows someone killing someone else.
Are there adult themes in the film?
Nothing overly sexual, but there are moments of kissing between Kristoff and Anna.
They do delve deep into the death of their parents. So, be cautious when taking a child who may have experience with a parent’s death, especially if it was recent.
Is Frozen 2 a dark movie?
The film is darker than the original as Elsa and Anna are exploring their past and origins that weren’t princess pretty.
But the overall theme of the film is NOT dark.
And I love this quote from Kristen Bell from the press conference – “…So I actually think that it’s great for kids to be a little bit on the edge of their seat because it’s a safe environment to try on those emotions.”
That comment struck a chord with me. Because my kids were HUGE scaredy-cats, so we avoided anything that might trigger them. But if we’d pushed just a little maybe they’d have realized that it wasn’t as scary as they thought it was going to be.
Does Elsa have a girlfriend?
Honestly, they don’t address Elsa’s sexuality in the film. No girlfriend or boyfriend to be found.
Is “Into the Unknown” the new “Let it Go”?
Y’all know that you start busting out in song as soon as the first chords of “Let it Go” start playing, no matter where you are. I can admit that we had an entire table of 8 singing the hit song at dinner a while ago.
But I just can’t get behind “Into the Unknown”. It wasn’t a highlight for me. The Panic at the Disco version has grown on me in the past few days and I actually like it better than the Idina Mendel version.
There is a song towards the end of the film that I absolutely adore. And that one could have been a tough competitor for “Let it Go”. Unfortunately, everyone is so focused on “Into the Unknown” so I think it’ll get overlooked.

So, is Frozen 2 kid-friendly?
You know your child, so in the end, it is up to you and what you think they can handle. But I think it is completely kid-friendly. And personally, I can’t wait to see it again!
under 3 years old
I would wait for it to be released on digital, unless they can sit still for an extended period of time as Frozen 2 comes in at 2 hours running time. And there are quite a few spots that could be seen as “boring” to young ones who may not be really understanding the storyline.
4 and older
Take them! Again there are some spots that they might lose interest in, but it should grab their attention back quickly. Use the slower spots to take those much-needed bathroom breaks!

I will say might be a little hard to follow for many kids. Even I left the theater a wee bit confused. I thought I knew what was happening but it wasn’t until I talked it over with other attendees that I knew I understood it correctly. So, watch closely and be prepared to answer some plot questions in the car ride home.
Stay after the credits roll
Yes, there is an end scene! I completely missed it the first time I saw the movie.
You’ll think they aren’t going to show it. But wait. And wait some more. Listen to all the songs.
It is there! And it’s worth melting for.
About Frozen 2
Frozen 2 is in theaters everywhere November 22, 2019
Why was Elsa born with magical powers? The answer is calling her and threatening her kingdom. Together with Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven, she’ll set out on a dangerous but remarkable journey. In “Frozen,” Elsa feared her powers were too much for the world. In “Frozen 2,” she must hope they are enough.
