Synopsis
Over many missions and against impossible odds, Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his family have outsmarted, out-nerved and outdriven every foe in their path. Now, they confront the most lethal opponent they’ve ever faced: A terrifying threat emerging from the shadows of the past who’s fueled by blood revenge, and who is determined to shatter this family and destroy everything—and everyone—that Dom loves, forever.
What Fast and Furious movies to watch before heading to the theater
All of them – because I love them all. But honestly, you could go in without seeing any of the previous 9 Fast and Furious films and enjoy Fast X.
Fast Five is the movie that will give you the most understanding of the plot in Fast X. But if you want to know who everyone is and why the audience is cheering or gasping – watch Fast Five through F9.
Character guide
After watching Fast 9 with someone who had never seen any of the films, I realized that some may need a cheatsheet to the main characters.
- Vin Diesel – Dominic “Dom” Toretto
- Michelle Rodriguez – Letty, Dom’s wife
- Leo Abelo Perry – Little Brian Toretto, Dom’s son from a former relationship
- Jordana Brewster – Mia Toretto, Dom’s younger sister
- John Cena – Jakob Toretto, Dom’s younger brother
- Ludacris – Tej, member of Dom’s team and “family”
- Tyrese Gibson – Roman, member of Dom’s team and “family”
- Sung Kang – Han, member of Dom’s team and “family”
- Nathalie Emmanuel – Ramsey, member of Dom’s team and “family”
- Jason Statham – Deckard Shaw, former enemy of the Fast team, now member of Dom’s team
- Helen Mirren – Queenie, Deckard Shaw’s mother
- Charlize Theron – Cipher, Dom’s enemy
- Jason Momoa – Dante Reyes, son of drug lord Hernan Reyes (Fast Five)
Please note that besides, Dante (Jason Momoa) the characters listed above are the key players that were introduced in previous Fast films.
Is Fast X kid-friendly?
Fast X has a rating of PG-13 for intense violence and action, language and suggestive scenes. There were a few scenes I hid my eyes when the violence got a to be a little too much. But then again, I’m a wimp when it comes to fake blood.
So, while it may be rated for 13 years or old, if they’ve seen other Fast movies or Vin Diesel action movies, they should be fine. But as always, if you are wary, I suggest screening the movie before taking kids.
My overall Fast X review
There hasn’t been a Fast and Furious movie that I haven’t enjoyed and Fast X was no different. But what was different was the reaction of the audience during and after the movie. They loved it! Raving it was one of the best Fast films.
With his silk outfits and matching pastel nails, Jason Momoa is savage as Dante. He reminds me of a certain swashbuckling pirate captain with his flamboyant ways and jokerish dark humor. Dante is a new kind of villain for the franchise. And he is everything they have been missing.
The rest of the film is what you’d expect – fast cars, massive destruction and vicious fight scenes. That is until you get to the end, which is shocking and you will either walk out intrigued and ready for Fast 11 or irritated that it didn’t end how you wanted it to. But remember that this isn’t the end.
And maybe you have to go back to the beginning to get to the end.
