Join Dr. Dolittle and his animal pals on a grand adventure this Friday, January 17, 2020! Starring Marvel superheroes Robert Downey Jr. and Tom Holland along side John Cena and Emma Thompson – this isn’t your average talking animal movie. Read on for my full review and to find out if I think Dolittle is kid-friendly!
My husband and I got to preview Dolittle over the weekend and it was hilarious! I thoroughly enjoyed it as did my partner in crime.
What is Dolittle rated?
With a general rating of PG, parental guidance is suggested. The rating is fair in my opinion. The film is pretty tame.
Are there any swear words in Dolittle?
Nope! There is a reference of “flipping off” someone. But it’s directed at the bad guy, so that’s ok – right?
And there is quite a bit of butt and potty humor. Which may offend some, but had the kids and adults in our audience were belly laughing. If you do not want your child listening to butt talk or fart jokes – Dolittle isn’t kid-friendly for your family.
Is there violence in the movie?
Some scenes are dark and scary plus there are villains in Dr. Dolittle. So yes, there are minor fighting scenes, talks of killing someone and scenes that allude to the death of a character. But there isn’t any blood and guts.

Does the film have adult topics?
The movie shows someone in the depth of depression. As someone who suffers from depression, it was hard to watch at times. Not to give anything away, I can’t deny that I was hoping for a surprise in regards to this part of the film.
Death is also very prevalent in the movie. Dolittle and his furry family are on a mission to save Queen Victoria from dying from a mysterious illness.
So, proceed with caution if either of these topics can be possible triggers for anyone in your group.
So, Is Dolittle kid-friendly?
In my honest opinion – YES!
The film is less than 2 hours long and as I mentioned earlier, I was in a theater full of kids who were laughing throughout the movie. And not once was I distracted by a kid being antsy or talking. So, either they were held captive by the screen in front of them or the parents were at the top of their game.
Dolittle is the perfect blend of humor and heart making it a furtastic family film!
