Disney+ Safety is a sports movie built on sacrifice, commitment and team. But the story it tells is more. It’s about selflessness and family.

I am a sports fan. And underdog sports films are some of my favorites. But I don’t follow college football so this wasn’t a story I knew. But I am so glad I do now!
Synopsis
SAFETY is a drama inspired by the empowering story of former Clemson University football safety Ray McElrathbey (Jay Reeves), a young man facing a series of challenging circumstances, whose dedication and persistence help him to triumph over repeated adversities. Aided by his teammates and the Clemson community, he succeeds on the field while simultaneously raising and caring for his 11-year-old brother Fahmarr (Thaddeus J. Mixson).
Is Safety kid-friendly?
So, Safety is rated PG which I think is a fair rating simply because of some of the topics addressed. It is a full 2 hour movie. And we all know most under 6 years old simply won’t sit still for that long. So I won’t say this is a movie for the whole family but I don’t feel this is one you need to watch after they’ve gone to bed.
Is there adult language in Safety?
I didn’t hear one cursie. And I wouldn’t have expected it if I did hear one!
Does Safety have adult content in the film?
Some hand-holding, talk about love and slow dancing. But nothing overly sexual that you’ll need to cover eyes for.

There is talk about drug use and rehab which may be some great conversations starters with pre-teens and teens. But much of it will go over the heads of younger kids.
And there are a few scenes that will have your heart breaking as a parent and one that involves a social worker taking a child from a parent. This one is hard to watch and you may need to talk it over with your older kiddos, if they have questions.
We don’t see any violence but there are some intense scenes with not so friendly characters.

My overall Disney+ Safety review
Duh, I loved it. And even if I wasn’t a fan of sports films – I would love Safety. Because that’s not the point of the story. This is about a family fighting to stay together and to overcome all the odds.
Underdog films always make me cry and let me tell you I cried. The determination Ray Ray showed and the willingness to give up EVERYTHING he worked for – had me ready to fight for him.
