We’ve been waiting for years to be able to walk in a galaxy far far away and the wait is almost over! Star Wars Land was announced at the 2015 D23 Expo and we now have Galaxy’s Edge opening dates.
I’ve been a Star Wars fan for as long as I can remember. I have seen every movie more times than most. I’ve recreated scenes with my action figures as a kid, styled my hair like Princess Leia many times and my bedroom is shrine to all things Star Wars.
So, when Bob Iger announced that Disney Park Imagineers were bringing Star Wars Land to life, I may have stopped breathing for a few minutes. My childhood fantasy was coming true and I’ve been counting down the years, months and soon minutes!
I’ve seen the artist renderings, I’ve watched the progress as the lands are being built at both coasts and I’ve attended all the discussion panels held. And now, I know when I’ll get to walk the streets of Batuu and pilot the
Millennium Falcon.
During the shareholder meeting today, Bob Iger announced that Star Wars Land: Galaxy’s Edge will be opening in two phases. Phase one will include the highly anticipated ride, Millennium Falcon:Smugglers Run and is expected to open on August 29th, 2019 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland on May 31st, 2019! Phase two will open later this year (2019) which includes Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.
In a surprising move, Iger also stated that no fastpasses, including maxpass and fastpass+ will initially be available for Smugglers Run.
Now that we have solid opening dates, how will it affect your travel plans? Will you be avoiding the parks or be the first in line? I know I’ll be at Disneyland in August and will be lining up as soon as they let me for Disney World!
