Spoiler Free Parent Guide – Is Avengers: Endgame Kid Friendly?

The epic Avengers saga is coming to a close on April 26, 2019, when the final film smashes in theaters everywhere. The anticipation has been building with each trailer and everyone has been talking about this movie including the kids on the playground. But with a PG-13 rating, is Avengers: Endgame kid friendly?

I had the amazing privilege to be invited to a media screening of Avengers: Endgame today. And W-O-W. The Russo brothers just served up an epic mic drop.

Is Avengers: Endgame appropriate for kids?

With a PG-13 rating, Avengers: Endgame may not be the movie for all ages. We have never censored much in our house, but I know that not all families are like ours. I’ve broken down the film to help parents make a decision on if they are comfortable taking their children to see Avengers: Endgame in theaters.

How much violence is in Avengers: Endgame?

If you’ve ever seen any Marvel films, you know that violence is going to be part of the movie. In Avengers: Endgame, I think there is definitely more fighting than your average MCU movie.

While the bloodshed isn’t as horrible as it could have been, we did see throats being slit, heads flying and some obvious injuries – definitely some cringe-worthy scenes for sure. And I may have covered my eyes a time or two because it was intense. Trust me when I say it’s tough watching your favorite superheroes getting beat down no matter your age.

Is there swearing in Endgame?

Swearing isn’t a huge deal in our home, but I know it could be a deal breaker for some parents. Keep in mind that these are some ticked off superheroes assembling to avenge the fallen, so don’t be surprised when a curse word or two flies.

I didn’t keep count because I was so enthralled with the movie, but there are quite a few throughout the three hours including “sh!t”, “son of a B!@#$” and “a$$”.

And while many times the curse words broke up the tension and made everyone laugh, I don’t want you going in and being shocked when Captain America lets a cursie fly.

Is Avengers: Endgame too long for kids?

The run time for Avengers: Endgame is just over three hours and let’s be honest, that is too long for anyone. Add in the small bladder and short attention spans – yeah, Endgame is too long. You are not going to want to miss a minute of the movie for a potty run.

I’m glad I saw the movie today with my oldest, so on Thursday when we take my 11 year old, I can be in charge of bathroom breaks, if needed.

Does Avengers: Endgame deal with adult issues?

Simple answer – obviously.

We saw death snap in Infinity War and are now dealing with the aftermath in Avengers: Endgame. Unfortunately, we see the toll it takes on everyone and it’s not pretty. Depression, binge drinking, vengeful killing sprees, survivors guilt, blinding anger and grief – these are the issues plaguing our beloved Avengers.

There are several possible triggers for young ones who may have experience with some of these devastating issues that need to be considered. And for those who have never experienced anything like this, it could be very difficult for them to process.

I highly recommend keeping that in mind when deciding if this is a movie to see in theaters.

So, is Avengers: Endgame kid friendly?

I hate telling parents what to do with their kids when it comes to movies. You know your kid(s)! If you’ve seen the other Avenger films and they’ve handled it well then I think they’d be fine with Endgame.

I wouldn’t recommend taking kids under 7 to see it in the theater simply because sitting still for 3+ hours is tough on anyone. If you do, I highly suggest going and seeing it without kids first, so running to the bathroom in the middle doesn’t kill you. And for those around you – it might be nice to sit on the end.

Did Avengers: Endgame live up to the hype?

What a daunting task this film had to be. I can’t even imagine the pressure everyone who touched a piece of this movie during production had to be under.

After more than 10 years, 21 movies and 25+ Marvel superheroes – Avengers: Endgame was everything I needed it to be and more than I knew I wanted it to be. And no matter your age, pack the tissues and Depends (I wish I had worn some). To miss a minute of the film is to miss it all.

Since you can’t please everyone, there will be those left angry and some fans may feel let down. I am not one of these fans. I laughed, I cried happy tears and I sobbed from a broken heart. But, in the end, I left satisfied.
